Sources and limitations

This research was fixed as of July 31, 2026. Sources were checked on that date. When a standard, official page, or public practice changes, the comparison must be revised without retroactively changing an older document version.

Baseline editions

ApproachAnalysis baselineStatus used in the research
TOGAFTOGAF® Standard, 10th Edition with Technical Corrigendum 1Current position in The Open Group's official catalog on the analysis date.
DoDAFDoDAF 2.02 and DM2 2.02Official current version on the DoD CIO site.
ArchiMateArchiMate® 3.2Current published edition according to The Open Group; released in October 2022.
GartnerPublic Enterprise Architecture approach and open research abstracts from 2025–2026Neither a versioned standard nor a formal metamodel. The historical META Group Framework is outside scope.

SAF is compared in its current state — version 0.7.0.

TOGAF

The licensed full TOGAF text is not copied. Content-metamodel terms are paraphrased only to the extent needed for the analytical crosswalk.

DoDAF and DM2

The research does not test a specific architecture description for DoDAF conformance and does not implement PES.

ArchiMate

Official metamodels, notation, and permitted-relationship tables are not reproduced. The mapping is expressed in prose and original SAF tables.

Gartner

The full research is available to Gartner clients and is not included in the analysis. No closed metamodel, mandatory artifact set, or exact method is inferred from public material. Missing information receives low confidence or “not applicable” rather than being filled with assumptions.

Citation and paraphrase rules

  1. A link appears next to the claim it supports and is repeated on this page.
  2. Rights-holder or government-owner pages take priority; secondary summaries do not support normative conclusions.
  3. Definitions and recommendations are paraphrased; no long quotations are included.
  4. Official diagrams, metamodel tables, and branded images are not copied. The Mermaid diagram in the overview is an original SAF analytical diagram.
  5. A conclusion drawn from several sources is identified as a SAF mapping, not as the position of the respective organization.
  6. Links support the nearest concept but do not create claims of compatibility, conformance, or certification.

Access and accuracy limitations

  • Some complete TOGAF and ArchiMate material requires registration and is licensed.
  • Most Gartner research is subscription-only; the analysis uses only visible public pages and abstracts.
  • DoDAF contains substantially more types, attributes, and constraints than the short comparison represents.
  • Tailored enterprise metamodels, language profiles, and tool schemas may differ from the baseline description.
  • Russian terminology is SAF's working translation; machine exchange must retain the original English name and source version.
  • The analysis date does not mean every page was published in 2026; it records when currency was checked.
